This opera and ballet site has an incredible history. It dates back to the beginning of the third century AD. It was not only a place for leisure: a Greek library and a Roman library were available to the guests, who belonged to all Roman classes, as emperor Caracalla (after whom the baths are named) aimed to please everyone in the city.
Today the central part of the baths is used for operas, ballets and concerts. The first performance of the three tenors
happened here in 1990!
